Isoko is a rare Japanese feminine given name composed of iso (磯), meaning "seashore" or "rocky beach," and ko (子), meaning "child." A child of the shore. A child born where land surrenders to water.
The kanji 磯 evokes something precise and untamed — not the smooth sand of leisure, but the jagged, barnacled edge where waves crash and recede, where the earth is constantly being rewritten by the sea. It is a boundary in perpetual negotiation, neither fully solid nor fully fluid.
To name a child Isoko is to place her at the threshold — between worlds, between stillness and motion, between what holds and what dissolves.
With this totem, Amélie Dauteur sculpts the figure of an in-between being. ISOKO does not belong entirely to any one element. She stands where forces meet, shaped by the tension of that encounter — worn smooth in some places, sharply defined in others, like stone that has known the tide for a long time.
A child of the edge. A monument to the beauty of the in-between.

OUR ADVICE
Place them on a console table or style them within a bookshelf — as single statements or as part of a small curated family.

"Okashi, Hosu, Niji, Taboo, Torio — each a charming name forming a forest of totems created by Amélie Dauteur.Amélie Dauteur’s totems are poetic exclamation marks that punctuate the art scene with their grace, finesse, and joyful beauty. It comes as no surprise — their creator, who comes from the world of decoration, fashion, and luxury, brings exceptional care to their making. Her gesture is assured, her technique refined, and in her choice of materials — hand-painted ceramics or wood shaped by time — nothing is left to chance. These elements, drawn from nature, reinforce the primal and sensual character of the totems."
